The process begins when some foreign body makes its way inside the shell and comes in contact with the mantle which protects the inner organs of oyster. In response, the mantle begins to deposit a substance called Nacre, also called MOTHER OF PEARL. Nacre is a glue like substance that holds the layers together. Over time the oyster will apply several layers of nacre to the foreign body and forms a pearl of some shape,with the shape of invading body. Thus a wonderful pearl is formed.....
